Known for pace, dribbling skills, a powerful long-range shot and his ability to play as a striker or a right winger, Daniel first played for Aston Villa before joining Coventry City at the age of 13. His development continued after a move to Manchester City where he gained his first cap in the 2007/8 season.

After a move to Chelsea he began to appear on a regular basis and has played for the English national squad at all ages.

Sturridge comes from a footballing family as he is the nephew of former football strikers Simon Sturridge and Dean Sturridge

Olympics: Sturridge scored his first goal for Great Britain in the second group match, a 3-1 defeat of the UAE. In the final group match, Sturridge scored the only goal as Great Britian defeated Uruguay to finish top of their group and progress to the quarter-finals.
